Do you ever find yourself choosing the place you don't know over the stalwart business you do know so you can write a new Yelp review? Yep, I'm a true Yelp fan. I cannot help myself. Don't ever take me to Mardi Gras in New Orleans because I'd probably get really competitive about getting the most beads too. Transfer Market is definitely a neighborhood anchor: This convenience store is open late, the owners are nice, they're very well-stocked, have decent pricing and it's clean. Milk, cold cuts, cereal, beer/wine, snacks, cleaning supplies & even a limited amount of fresh produce with a seriously deep selection of hard liquor with prices that won't gouge you. I can't walk into this market without remembering a four year-old Finn looking at a large display near the door and asking me, "What's a Door-it-toe?" I spent 2 minutes telling him Doritos were "really gross-y" and they tasted "fishy" and "bitter". Well, that didn't work. Sigh.. Transfer Market's a good business. You have a better-than average chance of finding that one item you forgot at Lucky. Lots of metered parking- but beware that yellow-topped meters adjacent to the store on Hayes & Divis run until 6pm (it's 3pm in other parts of the 'hood just a 1/2 block away).

The wait at Little Star was a bit hefty (no surprise I'm told). So to kill time, we headed over to this liquor store to grab some drinks and paper bag it. While browsing their selection, I was sad to see there wasn't a 24oz Tecate. I opted to relive the early days of my drinking by grabbing a Sparks. While the others pondered their options, we also had to keep reminding my boyfriend that if he wanted one of the bottles he'd need a bottle opener and we lack one. What happens? I heard Rami (didn't catch his name while we were there, I just see that thanks to other reviews) ask another customer if they wanted a bottle opened for them. I think whispered excitedly to the boy that they have a bottle opener. It seemed this was the go-to place for all the neighborhood folks to get their paper bag on; just about every customer in that place went in for that very reason. Rami was friendly, provided paper bags for all of our beverages and popped open that bottle for my boy. Despite the lack of a large Tecate can, the mere fact that Rami caters to the paper bag culture AND is so friendly is freakin AWESOME. This place makes me wish I lived near by. That's saying a lot for a liquor store! When I am within range of this place in the future though, you know I'll be back.

Rami rules!! Picture the scenario: a rainy Sunday night, mildly intoxicated girl trying to get cab fare to get back to the party where she left her cell phone. ATM is down, so I start buying shit -- vitamin water and Red Bull -- so I can get cash back from my credit card. Rami doesn't even hold me to the $10 minimum. Homeboy is cracking me up, especially when he looks at the Red Bull and says: "Are you sure you're old enough to drink this?" Which is what every woman over 30 wants to hear!

I got nothing bad to say about this place. They have seen me and my roommates at my finest. We go there before nights out, during parties at our house, and just to get the necessities. We usually roll in there in some ridiculous outfit, and Rami, the night guy is always giving us a hard time. We like this market and Rami so much, we even invited him to our last party! He had the night off and slept right through it...next time i guess. They always have our essentials, cheap wine, sparks, a light snack, smokes, etc. Just what every local convenience store should have. But this place one ups the ones on the other corners, due to friendly service, and cash back!
